Dr. "Jack" Laurie Jackowiak - Owner / Senior Veterinarian
She was born and raised in Ossineke, MI. As a youngster she was active in 4-H, FFA, and NBHA which fueled her to become a veterinarian. She graduated from Michigan State University and more recently graduated with an animal chiropractic certificate from Options for Animals Chiropractic School.
She opted to come back to Alpena to help her community and is striving to continue to provide great health care for small animals and expanding the quality of equine services available. She has set aside an area at her home to house sick horses.
You may also see her husband, Bob, around the clinic too. He is crucial to keeping the clinic working well. When they are not at the clinic they are likely outside fishing, riding, or just enjoying time with their two dogs (Molly- Bluetick & Mabel- Bloodhound) or quarter horses (Earl & Scooter).
Dr. Joann Greenfield - Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Greenfield grew up in Annapolis, Maryland and moved to Michigan in 2003 to study Animal Science at Michigan State University. A true Spartan, she continued on to veterinary school and graduated from MSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012.
Her primary interest is dairy production medicine, but she enjoys the diversity of working with all species, whether they are livestock or pets. She especially enjoys small animal internal medicine and surgery.
In her spare time, Dr. Greenfield can usually be found sitting by a bonfire with her three dogs, Boyd, Jake, and Dar.
Dr. Samantha Brickel - Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Samantha Brickel recently joined our team in July 2017!
Dr. Brickel graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. She has recently moved to Alpena from the Tri-city area, after working at a small animal practice for a year. She is excited to join the staff of Alpena Veterinary Clinic and expand her care to large animal species.
Dr. Brickel has a special interest in educating owners in preventative care to help their pets enjoy a long and healthy life. She also looks forward to providing quality care for all species, including ruminant and equine species.
In her spare time, Dr. Brickel, her husband Andy, and their dog, Addy enjoy spending time in the great outdoors. Dr. Brickel has previously raised Scottish Highlands and owned reining horses. She plans to start up on field trails with her dog Addy who is a German Wirehaired Pointer.
Jessica Campbell - Licensed Veterinary Technician
Jess, a 2010 graduate from the Michigan State University Veterinary Technology program, grew up in Harrisville, MI surrounded by many different species of pets and farm animals. Her love of such a variety of animals shows in her everyday work here at AVC. On a daily basis, you can find her drawing blood, cleaning teeth, assisting in surgery and patient recovery, and helping to educate pet parents in many aspects of their pet's health.
When she is not at work, she enjoys quality time with her fiancé, Ben, their cat, "Jade," and dog named "Ruger," her Clydesdales "Chrissey" and "Thea," and her chickens. She also kayaks, crafts, and loves spending time in the barn and outdoors.
Danielle Timm - Office Manager
Danielle joined the Alpena Veterinary Clinic team in 2014 and is our Practice Manager. She graduated from the University of Florida in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science (Equine Industry Specialization) and a Minor in Management and Sales. Danielle previously worked at the Dade City Animal Clinic, Equine Medical Center of Ocala, and The Sanctuary: Equine Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Center while living in Florida.
Danielle was an active member of 4-H and FFA for many years and enjoyed raising beef cattle and pigs. She enjoyed spending time training horses and competing in Three-Day Eventing while living in Florida. Now that she lives in Michigan, Danielle enjoys the great outdoors. Her hobbies include horseback riding, snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing. She also enjoys spending time with her two cats, "Tux" and "Mittens."
Lisa Garant - Receptionist
Lisa has lived in the Alpena area most of her life. She is a graduate of Alpena High School and has been a cosmetologist since she was 17 years old.
Lisa also has previous work experience waitressing, managing an office supply store, and making 3-D cakes. Lisa is the mother of a family that enjoys the outdoors including fishing, riding dirtbikes, and hiking. They are a very close family and spend as much time having fun together as possible.
Lisa will welcome you at the front desk when you enter the clinic, and you will often talk to her on the phone when you call the clinic. She is very compassionate and caring, and strives to help all clients and their pets in any way she can.
McKenna Sharp - Veterinary Assistant
McKenna joined our team in June 2016. She was born in Grand Rapids and raised here in Alpena, Michigan. McKenna is an Alpena High School graduate.
You will most likely see her helping keep pets comfortable and assisting the doctors in exam rooms.
McKenna enjoys riding horses, camping, fishing, and spending time with family. She has a dog named Maisey and a horse named Ruby.
Tori Kensa - Veterinary Assistant
Tori joined our team in July 2017 and is one of our veterinary assistants. Tori was raised here in Alpena and is a graduate of Alpena High School. Tori has previously worked at Turning Brook Retirement Living and an orthodontics office, where she gained experience providing patient care and good customer service. Tori can be found helping keep pets comfortable and assisting the doctors in exam rooms. When she is not working, Tori enjoys being outdoors, snowmobiling, horseback riding, being on the water, camping and fishing. Tori also spends most of her time riding and training horses.
Ashley Corn - Kennel Supervisor
Ashley was born and raised in Alpena, MI and graduated from Alpena High School in 2011.
She has been riding horses and barrel racing all her life. She has 2 horses, Comet and Bell and competes in the International Barrel Racing Association (IBRA). In 2013 she won the 3D saddle on Comet and the 4D saddle on Bell. She also has a 2 year old toy Australian Shepard named Mia who is her side kick and goes everywhere with her.
She has worked at Alpena Veterinary Clinic for almost 4 years and takes great care of your pets when they are staying at the clinic or getting prepared for surgery.
