She is looking forward to the diversity of species and cases a mixed animal practice brings! In her free time, she enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, crafting and sewing, hiking, and spending time with her geologist husband Alex, Husky-mix dog Leif, and dog-like cat Tomas.
Jessica Campbell – Licensed Veterinary Technician
Jess graduated from the Michigan State University Veterinary Technology program in 2010 and has been with us since that time. Growing up on a farm and being surrounded by numerous types of animals during her childhood made the decision to be a veterinary technician an easy one. She enjoys being outdoors, riding horses, crafting, and creating things. She has a Clydesdale (Thea), Dog (Ruger), and Cat (Jade). Although she also loves chickens- currently the coop is empty, but hopefully not forever!
Katie Miltz – Reception
Katie is our talented front desk receptionist. She grew up in Sault Ste. Marie (which makes her a Yooper!). In her spare time, she loves playing with her children and spending time with friends. She loves anything outside, whether it’s gardening, camping, bike riding or even just mowing the lawn! She also loves cows and helping her family on their little farm in Black River. Katie has a huge heart and we are so fortunate to have her with us.
Julie Bush – Veterinary Assistant
Julie, one of our kennel assistants, comes to us from Boyne City. A former groomer, she’s completely at ease around all animals and has two cats, three dogs, a lizard and a rat at home. She loves camping and helping animals feel better. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a sick animal leave the clinic healthy. Thank you for being a part of our team and AVC family, Julie!
Bekki Smith- Veterinary Assistant
Bekki is one of our vet assistants here in the clinic. Bekki loves working with the small animals here in the clinic. When she’s not here, she enjoys her small and large animals at home. Cheyenne Koslakiewicz – Receptionist
Cheyenne grew up in neighboring Rogers City. She has a background in the financial world and a degree in Business Administration. After high school, she moved to Alaska to attend the University of Alaska, Anchorage. While getting her degree Kimberly spent her time dancing with the UAA Dance Ensemble, hiking, fishing, and hunting. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, she got married and moved back to Michigan with her Husband Andrew and their two cats, Willow and Maple. Kimberly enjoys crafting, spending time outside, traveling, and hanging out with her family in her free time.
Samantha Pontbriand – Kennel Assistant

Thompson Hein – Client Services Representative
Tom is an Alpena native. He and his black Labrador, Lilly frequent the many state parks and public recreation areas that dot our beautiful state. Be it on the water, on the beach, or in the woods he enjoys getting out and moving alongside his companion. When not at the clinic or in the outdoors Tom can be found participating in recreational team sports, or at the gym. Tom has been around animals, big and small, from the time he was young, and is happy to facilitate the needs of our clients and their four-legged/furry friends!
Pipsqueak likes to think of herself as our team leader. She’s a gal of many jobs. She loves to roam the clinic and oversee the daily activities. She considers herself to be the glue that hold the team together, and we would all have to agree. It’s impossible to feel blue when there is always an ear that needs to be scratched. Since Pip has been here longer than any of us, we all get to learn a little something from her every day. Even if it’s just to take time and enjoy the sunshine.
